In 2019 we funded and oversaw the construction of a new toilet block for the students at St Montfort College for the visually impaired.

The visual impaired learners at St Montfort live in an accommodation block close to the school during term time. The previous pit latrines at the site were washed away in floods during the rainy season of 2018. This meant the students had to leave the hostel gated complex and walk back to the school block at night to access the school toilets. Although the school is only a short distance away, the path is unmade, unlit and winds through the undergrowth, making it a challenging and dangerous journey for a child with poor sight.

St Joseph’s Church on New Zealand Road, Cardiff, raised in excess of £700 during their 2019 Lenten appeal which allowed us to build a new toilet block within the hostel grounds. Work started in April and was completed by October. The block was officially opened by Canon Roy Doxsley during our trip to Malawi in November 2019.

Many thanks to the parishioners of St Joseph’s for their generosity.
